Having technical problems? Here are the most FAQ’s!

frequently-asked-questions-video-chat-6roundsAlthough we have an FAQ page, one which we try and update as often as possible, I still get about 10-20 of the same questions each day. That’s why I’ve decided to dedicate this week’s blog post to the 8 most frequent questions I get asked. If you have any questions that you’d like answered feel free to post them in the comments below or send them to me and I’ll be happy to answer them for you.

Question 1: I’m on a Mac and my webcam doesn’t work

Control-click anywhere in the flash video and go to your settings. Check your webcam settings and make sure that the USB camera (iSight) is the one that’s selected. Sometimes you have to deny and then allow in order for it to kick in.

Question 2: I’m using Linux (Ubuntu) and I’m having problems

Unfortunately, we currently do not completely support Linux, therefore, if you’re using any version of Linux’s operating systems you will run into some problems on the site. Sorry for the inconvenience. On the other hand, if you’re a Linux user, you are already familiar with this kind of problems ;)

Question 3: My Google Wave extension doesn’t work…

First, I would recommend you read our blog post about our extension entitled How to use 6rounds Google Wave extension. Then I would ask you one simple question, has anyone taken the seat opposite you? If not, then someone needs to in order for it to connect. If someone has and nothing happens, it can mean one of two things, either the person has logged off the wave and is therefore not “actually” there and wave hasn’t received that information yet, or there was a technical error. If you believe it was a technical error please send me a message.

Question 4: Isn’t rounds.com a part of Google Wave?

If you are on rounds.com that means you are not on wave. In order to use our extension in Google Wave you need to be logged into wave and then either open a new wave or edit an existing wave and then follow the directions in our blog post How to use 6rounds Google Wave extension.

Question 5: How do I invite more than one person to my session?

Currently we only support one-on-one video chats. In the future however, we will be supporting up to six people in a round. Stay tuned.

Question 6: My webcam isn’t working (and I’m not on a Mac)

Right-click anywhere in the flash screen and go to your settings. Check in your webcam settings that the correct webcam is selected. Sometimes you have to deny and then allow in order for it to kick in.

Question 7: I don’t get it, how do I chat with someone?

There are several ways you can begin a session:
1. Join a random round using the big button in the Lobby page. The system will soon link you up with someone else who joined as well. That’s a great way to check out our system!
2. Go to the page titled People and scroll-over the specific person whom you wish to invite. Then, you will see the option to invite them to a one-on-one. Click it.
3. Go to a profile and under their picture, press on the button that looks like two webcams.
4. If they are your friends you will see them on the right side under your friends list, click on their name and underneath their name you will have an option to invite them to a one-on-one.

Question 8: I can’t remove someone as my friend!

Go to the profile of the person you want to remove, on the right, under their (and your) friend’s list you will see the option to remove as friend. If there is someone who is bothering you, you can also chose to block them (only if they are not your friend). If you go to that person’s profile in the same place as remove as friend you will see block this person.

* Please note that we are currently aware of a bug in which you cannot delete Natasha Shine or Steven Miles as friends – we are in the process of fixing this problem. Please be patient with us.

The above are general answers that should help solve the specific problems mentioned. If you do not find the answers helpful, then you are probably experiencing some sort of technical problem in which case, please send me a message or comment on this post and I will try my best to help you out.
